Getting started
Who does Grace To Change serve?
Grace To Change provides outpatient substance use treatment for adolescents (ages 14+) and adults. Our primary service area is Collin County, but we serve all Texas residents. Some of our clients voluntarily enroll. Others are court-ordered to do so. Some do not have insurance. Some self-pay. Please see additional questions and answers below, which might address your circumstances in more detail.
What substances do you treat?
We treat all alcohol and drug addictions including opioids, stimulants, cannabis, and Kratom. We evaluate each client prior to enrollment to assess specific needs, which allows us to tailor treatment appropriately.
Do you work with people on medication-assisted treatment such as Suboxone or Methadone?
Yes. We do not offer this treatment on site, however.
What are the credentials of your counseling staff?
We employ Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors. We also provide peer support through a Recovery Coach and Peer Support Specialist. Our entire provider team is also in recovery, meaning that the care and counseling we deliver stems from relatable lived experience, delivered with empathy, compassionate guidance, and clear expectations for accountability.
Do you treat co-occurring mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and trauma?
Yes. We cover co-occurring mental health conditions in our group sessions. In addition, our individual counseling sessions aim to get to the root causes of addiction, which are often undiagnosed or untreated mental health conditions. If the condition requires additional treatment, we have an extensive referral partner network.
Are your services faith-based?
No. Grace To Change is not a faith-based treatment program, and participation does not require any particular religious belief or practice. We recognize, however, that faith and spirituality can be meaningful sources of strength and support in recovery. Clients are welcome to explore and discuss faith as part of their recovery journey when it is meaningful to them.
How do I know which program is right for me or my family member?
The appropriate level of care depends on each person’s individual needs. Call Grace To Change at (972) 542-2900 to discuss your situation and determine which services may be appropriate. Based on initial intake and our formal assessment, we will work with you to determine the best next steps.
If your loved one could potentially be our client, but isn’t ready to commit, and you need support to live through addiction alongside them, our counseling services are also available to you. We do charge for these but can work with you if payment would otherwise be a barrier.
How do I get started and how soon can I start?
Services can begin same day, or the next day, depending on circumstances. Call (972) 542-2900 or contact us through our website. Walk-ins are also welcome for an initial discussion, but we do recommend calling ahead first. If you have a Medicaid card, bring that with you. If you do not have insurance, this will not prevent you from enrolling.
Do I need a referral?
No, you do not need a referral. In some instances, CPS or probation will mandate participation. In other circumstances, a therapist, attorney, or inpatient provider may make a referral to us, but a referral is not necessary.
Do I have to be sober before beginning treatment?
You don’t have to be sober, in that we treat many people whose addictions are still active, but we are not a medical detox facility and cannot accept clients while they are high or inebriated. If you or someone you love needs detoxification first, or a higher level of care, such as inpatient treatment, we can offer referrals to you.
Programs and treatment
What programs does Grace To Change offer?
Grace To Change offers:
- Substance abuse evaluations
- Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
- Supportive Outpatient Program (SOP)
- Individual counseling
- Aftercare
- Drug testing
- Education and community outreach
What is the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?
IOP consists of 18 group sessions, held three times per week for six weeks (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 6-9 PM), plus 4 individual counseling sessions, scheduled routinely for one hour by the client and the counselor.
What is the Supportive Outpatient Program (SOP)?
SOP is considered a “step-down” from IOP, in that it meets less frequently. SOP includes 12 group sessions, held twice per week for six weeks (select any two each week from Monday, Tuesday or Thursday), plus 3 individual counseling sessions, scheduled routinely for one hour by the client and the counselor.
Do I have to attend both IOP and SOP to be considered a successful graduate of the program?
No. You can attend both, but doing so is not required. We will discuss which fit is best for you during your initial assessment.
What is the process and fee for drug testing?
Drug testing is conducted at our location, and results are confidential and available in minutes. Individuals must be 18 or older unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Drug tests are $30. We can work with you on payment if there are specific cost barriers.
Can I get drug testing even if I'm not receiving treatment at Grace To Change?
Yes. Drug testing services are available to both clients and non-clients.
What types of drugs do you test for?
Our drug test covers 15 types of drugs and alcohol including Fentanyl and Kratom.
What is aftercare?
Any graduate of either IOP or SOP is eligible for aftercare for life—at no additional charge. This means that after completing one or both programs, a client may return to as many group sessions as desired, with no expiration date or time limit. If individual counseling is requested, aftercare clients receive a reduced fee.
When are group sessions held?
Adults: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 6-9 PM.
Adolescents: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 4-7 PM.
When is individual counseling available?
Individual counseling sessions are scheduled Monday through Friday. Call (972) 542-2900 or contact us through our website for current appointment availability.
Are services offered in person, virtually, or both?
Group sessions are in-person. Counseling may be in person or virtually. Aftercare can also be in person or virtually.
What happens after I complete treatment?
Hopefully, the quality of your life and your relationships improve, and you take the skills and tools learned at Grace To Change with you to new endeavors. However, because we know that recovery is a lifelong journey, we remain here for you. Many clients stay on to participate in aftercare immediately following program graduation. Others may not initially do so but may return at any point. Aftercare is completely voluntary and there is no expiration date on its availability to you.
Cost, insurance and financial assistance
How much does treatment cost?
Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) costs $2,500. Our Supportive Outpatient Program (SOP) is $1,000. If you do not have insurance or coverage through Medicaid, do not let cost be a barrier to you. We can discuss options for you to enroll at little or no cost.
Does Grace To Change accept insurance or Medicaid?
We do not accept commercial insurance, but we do accept several forms of Medicaid. Please call us at (972) 542-2900 to discuss your plan. If you wish to pay out of pocket, you may do so.
What if I don't have insurance or can't afford treatment?
No one will be turned away for inability to pay. We will work with you on a sliding scale, installment program, and also offer need-based scholarships with minimal burden to apply.
Will I know what I owe before treatment begins?
Yes, you will. There are no surprises at Grace To Change regarding payment.
Is there a cost for a substance abuse evaluation? What about for a drug test?
Substance abuse evaluations that must be presented to the court or probation cost $125. The cost for a drug test is $30. Do not let cost be a barrier to you. We can provide drug tests at no cost if circumstances warrant.
Family involvement and confidentiality
What is the expectation regarding parent or family involvement, particularly for adolescent clients, in treatment?
Parents and loved ones are encouraged to learn about our programs and what the client is experiencing in our programs. There is no requirement however and involvement can and will vary by circumstance. We also offer family education programs, counseling for families and parents, and other opportunities for loved ones to engage.
Is treatment confidential?
Grace To Change protects the privacy of all clients. Drug testing results are also confidential. We are HIPAA compliant.
